I met an amazing young man called Spencer at school today.

Spencer has Downs Syndrome and rides a trike.

He wanted to join in with the rest of his classmates who were learning to ride on the road today. Unfortunately Spencer doesn’t get to ride as much as he would like, and his disability prevents him from performing some of the necessary skills needed to ride safely on the road, so we brought along a spare coach and helped him to have his own session on the playground!

He took a while to warm up, but he was flying round the playground on his very own assault course by the end, swapping between running and riding to keep him interested…his own mini Duathlon!

So, a huge thank you to Spencer for keeping that huge smile on his face throughout the session, for putting in such a great effort and for proving that, given the right time and opportunity, anyone can have fun on a bike!

We’re already looking forward to seeing him again on Friday, and we are always happy to talk to schools and other groups about running inclusive sessions where everyone can take part.

I hope that Spencer gives everyone a little  bit of motivation to get themselves out and about this week, he certainly made my day!
