Cannock Chase last week, Coed Y Brenin this week. It’s been a tour of Britains finest trail centres for us.

If you aren’t familiar with trail centres, they’re basically like playgrounds for people with mountain bikes. They’ve got loads of different types of riding, usually a cafe to refuel and regale and of course a place to park and a place to pee!

They’re all different, but they’re all brilliant.

We’ve been visiting a few, so we can find out sound good places to run some coaching sessions, take some of the people we work with, and to make sure we’re on top of our knowledge of what’s happening in the world of cycling so we can pass it on to our riders.

Coed Y Brenin was excellent, a great selection of trails (I rode one of the red trails, and one of the blues and it took just under 2 hours without too much puffing and panting. They had a shop just incase, and a nice warm cafe as mentioned before. It’s easy to find, easy to get round and there aren’t too many people on the trails (although I concede that a drizzly day in January probably doesn’t bring the masses out in force).

There are also running trails, kids trails and a walk for the children to try and find animals. A nice touch, and really does mean there is something for all there.

So, two very different trail centres in two weeks, both unique, and both united in their awesomeness! We’ll be heading back with some of Team Sole soon…
