Today Sole Cycling travelled to Cardiff to take part in the Streetgames festival at the Millenium Stadium.

We were invited, along with 40 other sports providers, to deliver cycling to around 2000 young people.

Participants also got to try rugby, climbing, football, dodgeball, rowing, boxing, climbing, netball and a number of other sports. It was great to see Dan Coast, a former member of the Sole Cycling coaching team, delivering a cycling skills course with Welsh Cycling, some fantastic work going on across Wales building a strong network of clubs for young people to join

As well as an Olympic Pursuit style Veledrome activity, we also ran the, now legendary, ‘change the tyre challenge’ which lots of youngsters had a go at, those that did receiving water bottles supplied by our friends at Vittoria.

The day was a fantastic success, with lots of riders sticking around to race their friends over and over again, a few riders even commented that ours was their favourite activity of the day, which was great.

For those unfamiliar with Streetgames, they are a fantastic charity, working with disadvantaged and disengaged young people in areas across England and Wales. We have been proud to be a small part of the project and it’s great to see their continued hard work really helping to change the lives of many, many young people. Sport really is a powerful tool, and with the right coaches and volunteers, which Streegames has in abundance, it can really make a huge impact on individuals and communities.
